This vintage intermediate wooden bass clarinet was previously used in a public school ("MUHS" is etched on the bell). The instrument has been recently overhauled, with white leather pads, Selmer-style resonators on the larger pads, a tenon sleeve to improve the center tenon fit, and an adjustment screw added to the left hand F key. The instrument was oiled and metal parts ultrasonically cleaned. The instrument plays well and would be a good substitute for a newer plastic instrument. A new hard case is included with the instrument. (Mouthpiece, cap, and ligature NOT included.) Serial #2050.
The R.M. Malerne Company factory was located in the "woodwind district" outside Paris, close to the Buffet and Selmer factories. They manufactured instruments under their own name and also manufactured "stenciled" instruments for Olds, Conn, and Linton. Some time in the 1970s the company was sold to Strasser, Marigaux and Lemaire.
