From the author's introduction to the book:This book expands the Albert scales with an increased range to the 4th octave written G. The harmonic minor scale is used throughout to practice its augmented 2nd. I use exercise #2 to introduce the skill of subdividing and of playing exactly with the metronome click. It's also a perfect place to concentrate on hand position, finger movements and refining the legato connections between notes and in the second part, the introduction to compound meters. The student is encouraged to memorize the chord patters in exercises #6 and 9 because they are not written out in the usual way. The dominant 7th chord is drilled in the major keys and the very important diminished 7th chord in the minor keys. Each key ends with a drill on the chromatic scale: 16th notes in the major keys and triplets in the minor keys.

Steven Klimowski studed clarinet with the famed Leon Russianoff while attending the Manhattan School of Music and SUNY at Purchase. He landed his first orchestra job with the Orquesta Sinfonico del Estado de Mexico. In 1987, Klimowski founded the Vermont Contemporary Music Ensemble. He has played with the Vermont Symphony and the Mozart Festival and the Opera Company of Middlebury. Steve is currently the principal clarinet with the Burlington Chamber Orchestra and plays with Raising Cane (the Vermont Symphony Orchestra woodwind trio). He is the adjunct clarinet teacher at the University of Vermont, Saint Michael’s College, and Middlebury College.
