Ellis Music Return Policy

Accessory items that are unopened and unused may be returned within 30 days of the date purchased. When a qualifying item is returned, we will refund the cost of the item plus sales tax, minus shipping/handling costs incurred by Ellis Music and any applicable restocking fee. Unopened and unused items may be exchanged for a similar item of the same cost. In certain cases, returns not resulting from an error we made in filling your order may be subject to a 15% restocking fee. Any item that is not returned in the condition in which it was received or has obvious signs of use may not be eligible for a refund.

Sheet music is generally not returnable. Exceptions can be made if the wrong music was purchased by accident and Ellis Music is notified within 7 days. Sheet music that was specially ordered, including music arrangements, are not returnable.

Purchased musical instruments may be returned within 14 days of the date purchased with prior approval from Ellis Music; a $20 restocking fee will be assessed for purchased instrument returns. If exchanging the instrument for another of similar value, Ellis Music may choose to waive the restocking fee.

Ellis Music does not accept returns of the following items unless defective:

  • Instrument bell covers or musician masks
  • Oboe and bassoon reeds
  • Opened boxes of clarinet or saxophone reeds
  • Kazoos or recorders
  • Books that have been written in
  • Clearance or reduced price sale items
  • Special order merchandise
  • Gift cards

A copy of the original sale invoice (store or printed online order receipt) will be required when returning items as proof of purchase.

When returning merchandise, please follow these guidelines:

  1. Returned item(s) can be brought to Ellis Music during business hours or shipped via UPS, Fedex, or U.S. Postal Service. See our contact page for the proper address; UPS and Fedex require the physical address, while the USPS requires our PO Box address.
  2. Return in original packing material when possible.
  3. Enclose the invoice or packing slip that came with your order and a note stating why you are returning the item(s). This will help us process your return more efficiently.
  4. We recommend using a shipping service that offers tracking and insurance; Ellis Music is not responsible if your return gets lost in transit.

Ellis Music will pay the return shipping costs if the return is a result of our error (for example, you received an incorrect item). In all other instances, the customer will incur any shipping cost required to return accessories or instruments to Ellis Music. Any discrepancies between what you ordered and what you received must be reported within 30 days of shipment; we cannot honor any claims made after that time. If an item appears to have been damaged during shipment, please retain all packing materials, as the carrier may need to inspect them.

You should expect to receive your refund within four weeks of giving your package to the shipper; however, in many cases you will receive a refund more quickly. Refunds for credit card purchases must be applied to the same card that was used to make the purchase. If you used a gift card to pay for all or part of an item you want to return, that portion of the refund will be issued as store credit.
