Bookkeeper
Location: Royalton, VT
Schedule: Full-Time, Mon–Fri (some Saturdays); overtime late Aug–mid Oct (compensated)
Ellis Music Company is a family music store specializing in school music instrument rentals, sales, and repairs throughout Vermont and New Hampshire. We’re seeking a financial professional to oversee the store’s financial health, managing accounts payable/receiveable, payroll, budgeting, and reporting.
Core Responsibilities
- Accounts payable and receivable - Manage outgoing payments to vendors and incoming payments from customers.
- Payroll - Ensure accurate and timely processing of employee payroll.
- Tax compliance - Work with an accounting firm to prepare and file all necessary business tax returns, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
- Budgeting and forecasting - Assist in developing and managing the store's budget, and provide financial forecasting to support business planning.
- Financial record-keeping and reporting - Maintain accurate and organized financial records for all store transactions, including sales, expenses, and payroll. Compile and present regular financial reports, budgets, and commentary to management for decision-making.
- Customer Interaction & Sales (as needed to support office staff) - Answer telephone and email inquiries promptly and professionally. Assist customers with rentals, purchases, financing, and service scheduling. Recommend products, explain features, and promote rental programs.
Key Skills & Qualifications
- Experience with bookkeeping, accounts payable/receivable, payroll, and financial reporting.
- Strong knowledge of accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks) and spreadsheet programs (e.g., Excel).
- Computer literacy and the ability to quickly become proficient with the store’s point of sale software.
- Attention to detail and strong analytical skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Retail sales experience a plus.
Compensation
$22-$26 per hour (commensurate with experience) plus benefits

Institutional Accounts Manager

Ellis Music Company is a family music store specializing in school music instrument rentals, sales, and repairs throughout Vermont and New Hampshire. We’re seeking a friendly, dependable professional to handle school instrument rentals and billing of institutional accounts, to act as a liaison between schools and our account representatives, and to interact with customers.
Core Responsibilities
- School instrument rentals - Process requests for school instrument rentals, ensuring proper documentation and clear communication regarding responsibilities. Work with warehouse staff and educational representatives to provide timely delivery of rentals. Schedule returns of instruments rented by schools (in collaboration with educational representatives).
- Management of institutional accounts - Establish and maintain close working relationships with school business office personnel and other relevant contacts. Track school purchase orders. Bill schools for instrument rentals. Ensure timely payment of all invoices by schools and other open accounts. Follow up on orders, repairs, returns, and billing issues involving school/institutional accounts.
- Customer Interaction & Sales - Answer telephone and email inquiries promptly and professionally. Assist customers with rentals, purchases, financing, and service scheduling. Recommend products, explain features, and promote rental programs.
