Ellis Music is a family owned music store employing fewer than 20 workers but serving over 400 schools and thousands of individuals throughout Vermont and much of New Hampshire with instrument sales and rentals, repair services, supplies, and sheet music.

Woodwind Instrument Repair Technician

Ellis Music Company is currently seeking a woodwind instrument repair technician with a certificate or degree from an accredited instrument repair school or equivalent experience. Job responsibilities include repairing both store-owned and customer-owned instruments, interacting with co-workers, customers, and music educators, and working collaboratively with fellow technicians to maintain a high standard of quality services. Skills repairing other types of instruments (brass, percussion, strings) is a definite plus but not required. A pleasant demeanor, tactfulness, and the ability to explain repair services to people unfamiliar with jargon are all qualities the ideal applicant would possess. Technicians use computer software to record their work and process service tickets, so comfort with computers or the ability to learn is also important. This job is full-time with competitive hourly wages and opportunity for overtime. Benefits include paid holidays and vacation time, company-sponsored health insurance, and SEP-IRA retirement plan.

Luthier (String Instrument Repair Technician)

Ellis Music Company, Vermont and New Hampshire’s premier music store, is seeking an experienced luthier to manage its string department. The job primarily involves repair and maintenance of the store's fleet of bowed and fretted musical instruments, customer repairs and restorations, re-hairing/bow work, and new instrument setup. As the resident string instrument expert, you will be called upon to answer questions from our staff, as well as customers and music educators. Strong communication skills are essential, along with organizational abilities and a dedication to consistently high quality work. Experience as a string performer is a definite plus. Educational Sales Representative

Ellis Music Company is seeking an outside sales representative to handle school accounts. This position involves making service calls (driving a company cargo van) to public and private schools, colleges, and universities on an established route to deliver instruments and supplies, pick up instruments for repair or return as directed, and support the needs of music educators. The qualified candidate will have a neat, professional appearance and a friendly demeanor. Other essential qualities include close attention to detail, problem solving skills, and a focus on the customer’s needs. Must have a valid driver's license and a clean driving record. A music degree and a background in teaching or performing is preferred, but applicants lacking that experience who possess the right combination of skills will be considered. Some knowledge of musical instruments and supplies is essential. Must be able to lift and move up to 50 pounds. Basic computer skills are needed as well for processing transactions. Musical Instrument Polisher

Ellis Music Company, Vermont and New Hampshire’s premier music store, is seeking a dedicated employee to work at its facility in Royalton, Vermont, as an instrument polisher. This position could be part-time or full-time depending on the desire and qualifications of the applicant. The job will primarily involve preparing store-owned band instruments (flute, clarinet, trumpet, etc) for rental by sanitizing mouthpieces, polishing instruments, cleaning cases, and ensuring that all associated supplies are packaged. This individual is also responsible for cleaning customer-owned instruments that have been repaired by Ellis Music technicians. Careful handling, attention to detail, and a high standard of workmanship are all critical to this position, as is a pleasant demeanor and the ability to work well with others. Knowledge of musical instruments is not required but may be helpful. The ideal candidate will have the ability to labor independently while also knowing when to ask questions or seek help from co-workers. Hourly wage and benefits to be determined based on time commitment, experience, and other factors.

Customer Service Representative

Ellis Music, Vermont and New Hampshire’s premier music store, is seeking a full-time customer service representative. Responsibilities include answering the telephone, assisting customers, conducting sales transactions, serving as a liaison between customers and account representatives, and other duties as assigned. The qualified applicant will be pleasant, dependable, self-motivated, and possess a professional demeanor. Strong communication skills and attention to detail are essential, along with organizational competence, proper customer etiquette, and the ability to multitask. At least some degree of comfort with using computers is essential, and the person hired for this position will need to become proficient using our point of sale software. A musical background is extremely helpful but not essential. This position may involve occasionally lifting/moving instruments weighing up to 50 pounds.
