Composed by Arthur Honegger for trumpet in C and piano. Published by Salabert.
From the outset, the title of Arthur Honegger's piece for trumpet and piano is programmatic. Composed in April 1947 for the Concours International d'Exécution Musicale de Genève (The Geneva International Music Competition), this work refers to the intradae, which functioned as overtures, written for brass instruments during the 16th and 17th centuries. Honegger's use of pentatonic modes throughout the entire piece is equally remarkable and creates an immediately recognisable stylistic unity. Introduction and notes on interpretation in French and English by André Feydy.
